1. Preparation Before Construction
Before commencing steel sheet pile construction, it is essential to ensure that all design requirements are fully met. These requirements cover several aspects, including site preparation, material procurement and inspection, as well as the organization and training of the construction team. Proper completion of these preparatory tasks is key to ensuring smooth and successful construction.
The layout of steel sheet piles must strictly follow design specifications to ensure smooth trench and foundation excavation. Adequate space must be reserved outside the foundation edges for formwork installation and removal. The supporting system for sheet piles within the trench should maintain a neat and orderly layout, minimizing irregular corners to allow for standard sheet pile installation and support placement. Additionally, all dimensions should comply with modular design standards as much as possible.
Throughout the entire foundation construction process—excavation, lifting, rebar installation, and concrete pouring—care must be taken to avoid collisions with the support system. It is strictly forbidden to remove supports without authorization, perform cutting or welding on them, or place heavy objects on the support structure.
2. Construction Process and Procedures
The construction process begins with precise positioning and marking of the steel sheet pile installation line. This is followed by trench excavation to prepare for pile installation. After installing the guide beam, sheet pile driving begins, ensuring proper alignment and stability. Once driving is completed, the guide beam is removed, and soil at anchor locations is cleared.
Next, excavation continues while simultaneously installing sewage pipes and inspection chambers. After these works are completed, stone and soil backfilling is performed, followed by extracting the sheet piles to complete the construction cycle.
3. Post-Construction Work
After steel sheet pile installation, several follow-up tasks must be carried out. First, the piles must undergo thorough inspection to ensure they meet quality standards. Qualified sheet piles are then lifted and transported to designated locations. Finally, the piles must be properly stacked for future use.
Steel sheet piles must undergo strict inspection regarding both appearance and material quality. These inspections help identify and correct defective piles early, reducing difficulties during pile driving.
During lifting, excessive quantities should not be lifted at once, and special care must be taken to protect the interlocks from damage. Lifting methods vary depending on site needs—either bundled lifting using steel wire ropes or single-piece lifting with specialized equipment.
When stacking sheet piles, the sequence, location, direction, and layout must be planned in advance, taking future construction operations into consideration.
