U.S. steel imports in November 2019 down 12.5% year-on-year

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reports that the United States imported a total of 1.541 million tons of steel products in November 2019, a year-on-year decrease of 29.9%. Of this total, 1.311 million tons were finished materials, a year-on-year decrease of 12.5%.

In the first 11 months of 2019, total imports of steel products and imports of finished materials were 26.332 million tons and 19.675 million tons, respectively, a year-on-year decrease of 17.3% and 18.1%. It is estimated that the total imports in 2019 will be 28.7 million tons and 21.5 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 14.8% and 16.5%, respectively.

In November, the U.S. market share of imported finished materials was about 15%, compared to about 19% in the first 11 months of 2019.
