Japan's demand for construction steel in June decreased 0.3% year-on-year

    According to the data recently released by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), the demand for ordinary carbon steel in the Japanese construction industry in June is expected to reach 1.65 million metric tons, which is 0.3% lower than the same period of the previous year, but it is comparable to that in May. This was a 6.5% increase from the previous quarter.

    In the forecast data for June, demand for profiles is expected to increase by 3.7% year-on-year, but it is down by 7.9% compared to May to 350,000 metric tons. Small bars are expected to drop by 5% year-on-year, but they will increase by 11% to 600,000 metric tons.

    Sources confirmed that the current price of large H-beams in the Tokyo steel market is 84,000-85,000 yen per metric ton ($767-$776 per metric ton), while the basic rebar price is 73,000-74,000 yen per ton, both months-on-month. Rose 1000 yen / ton.
